A New Space Opera RPG: Bitdust!!

Hey guys! This blog hasn't been updated in forever but I promise you it was for a good reason.

I'm here to announce a project I've been working on vigorously called Bitdust! It's an upcoming space opera roleplaying game akin to Traveller and Alternity.

I'm a diehard fan of space opera and I started this project about 5 years ago as an attempt to create the best possible starfaring experience I thought was possible. And now, the game has gone through 4 full revisions while in development and has approached its final year of development before publication.

I will be posting articles on Bitdust here in tandem with a soon to start Kickstarter campaign for the game.

Please check out the Bitdustrpg.com website for details on the game and keep checking this blog for previews on a lot of the game's core rules in the next few weeks.

Monday's Adventure Hook: Favored Assailant

Today's adventure hook puts players in a really tricky situation: they go deep undercover and assume villainous identities so as to be near enough to sensitive information that if retrieved, can save many lives.

How it all starts
A powerful or influential individual reaches out secretively to your adventurers. He believes his association, business, military branch, or secret society has been planning something horrendous and there is a small but possible chance to stop them.

He knows this organization in question has a secret place that absolutely no one but the inner circle is aware of. He knows that details of their abominable plan must be in this secret locale.

After exhaustive research, he has been able to come up with only one way of finding it and getting inside in time: by becoming an enemy of the organization. People of interest to this society disappear; presumably to this fabled place where they are thoroughly interrogated and possibly kept prisoner.

To become a person of interest to this organization, players must attempt a heinous crime, something so horrible and so massive that they will get the attention of the highest authorities and be disowned by those loyal to them. The way they'll get the organization's attention is by using weapons or spells created and used only by the organization to commit their deed.

What this deed is, is completely up to the GM. However, the PCs must appear convincing else the organization will sniff out their intentions and have them and their closest kin/associates killed and be never taken to the secret locale.

if your PCs are completely good and benevolent characters known for saving people then their sudden turn to the dark side will appear fictional. Your PCs must create a logical and believable chain-of-events that would lead them to make such a drastic change over a small period of time.

The Contact promises your PCs that he will clean their slate with the proper authorities once they have the information. He or she is influential enough that your PCs know he'll be able to keep his word.

Complications
As the PCs are apprehended and do not know if they have completely gotten the attention of the organization, they discover their contact has died.

They are now alone and no one knows they are undercover. Even if they do somehow make it out of it alive, there will be no one to set the record straight.

How will the PCs manage to escape capture once at the secret location? Will they succeed in retrieving the information they need and foiling the organization's plans? How will they manage to get all this done when authorities are after them, their allies have abandoned them, and the organization is hunting them down?
